The Covenant of Redemption and Biblical Reasoning: An Exegesis of Hebrews 7:20–25

This research paper by Nathan Ecarma, submitted to Dr. Kruger at Reformed Theological Seminary – Charlotte, explores the biblical and theological grounding of the Covenant of Redemption through a close exegesis of Hebrews 7:20–25.

Ecarma argues that the passage reveals the eternal, oathbound nature of Christ’s priesthood and His role as surety of a better covenant. Using the framework of “biblical reasoning,” he connects dogmatic and exegetical theology to show how the author of Hebrews perceives a covenantal ceremony between the Father and the Son in eternity. This eternal oath—rooted in Psalm 110 and fulfilled in Christ—forms the foundation of redemption history.
